I based this illustration on the National Geographic article, "Don't cut them down: Letting dead trees rot can help make new life". The article mentioned two species, Knothole Moss and the Violet Click Beetle, which I wanted to focus on by magnifying them. I had a lot of fun researching all of the components of a thriving log centric ecosystem and incorporating text into my illustration.
